Local stocks ended slightly higher

The key domestic indices finished marginally higher. Nifty FMCG, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Realty shares rose, while Nifty IT and Nifty Pharma shares fell.


As per provisional closing data, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 332.63 points or 0.45% to 74,336.45. The Nifty 50 index inched up 99 points or 0.43% to 23,217.60. In the past three trading sessions, the Nifty and Sensex drifted lower by 1.11% and 0.76%, respectively.


The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index edged higher by 0.07% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index moved lower by 0.13%.


The market breadth was soft. On the BSE, 2375 shares advanced and 2810 shares declined. A total of 210 shares were unchanged.


Tata Steel Ltd was the top traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 294.76 lakh shares and registered a sharp decline of 3.80% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has drifted lower by around 1.26% in last one-month and has soared 8.52% over last one year.


HDFC Bank Ltd was the second highest traded stock in NIFTY50 index today, recording a quantity of 274.77 lakh shares and posted a sharp drop of 16.68% compared to last one-week’s average daily volume. The stock has edged lower 1.71% in last one-month and has lost significant ground 25.90% over last one year.


Index action


The Nifty FMCG index gained 1.63% to 45559.0 today. The index is lower by 2.01% in last one week and has declined 6.81% over last one month. It fell sharply by 20.73% in last one year. Patanjali Foods Ltd (up 7.81%), Radico Khaitan Ltd (up 2.43%), Marico Ltd (up 2.39%), ITC Ltd (up 2.38%) and Colgate-Palmolive (India) Ltd (up 2.18%) moved up.


The Nifty IT index declined by 1.58% to 29087.65 today. The index is down 1.10% in last one week and has inched lower by 4.07% over last one month. It declined sharply by 17.68% in last one year. Tata Consultancy Services Ltd (down 2.76%), LTM Ltd (down 2.61%), Mphasis Ltd (down 2.58%), Oracle Financial Services Software Ltd (down 2.48%) and Wipro Ltd (down 1.83%) slipped.


The Nifty Pharma index inched down by 0.16% to 26146.2 today. The index has fallen by 2.58% in last one week and has edged lower 0.58% over last one month. It has surged by 17.97% in last one year. Gland Pharma Ltd (down 2.38%), Wockhardt Ltd (down 2.06%), Biocon Ltd (down 1.99%), Mankind Pharma Ltd (down 1.51%) and Laurus Labs Ltd (down 1.11%) moved down.


Global Markets


European markets showed mild gains.


DOW futures are up by 0.32% today.


MCX Crude oil futures are sharply lower by 3.19% at Rs 10218.0 per barrel.


NIFTY50 futures ended modestly higher by 0.25% at 23282 and are in a premium of 64 points compared to NIFTY50.


In NSE500 stocks,

Tata Investment Corporation Ltd declined 5.07% today, giving back some of its 10.36% gain from the last session. The stock has gained 9.75% over last one month.

In broad market, Tata Chemicals Ltd posted a substantial increase in volume today. The volume of the stock stood at 254.83 lakh shares, witnessing a sharp increase of 4295.83% compared to its last one-month average volume.
