NIFTY moves up, Nifty FMCG emerges as an index to watch, up 1.25%

The key equity barometers traded with limited gains in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23281-23116. Nifty FMCG, Nifty PSU Bank and Nifty Bank shares advanced, while Nifty Pharma and Nifty IT shares fell.


At 10:45 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, added 425.55 points or 0.58% to 74,429.37. The Nifty 50 index moved higher by 121.45 points or 0.53% to 23,240.05.


The broader market performed worse than frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index posted modest losses of 0.19% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index lost 0.51%.


The market breadth was fragile. On the BSE, 1734 shares gained and 2864 shares retreated. A total of 248 shares were unchanged.


Nifty FMCG index rallied 1.25% to 45388. The index has lost 6.81% in last one month and plunged 20.73% over last one year. Patanjali Foods, inching higher 3.13%, led the gainers followed by Marico, adding 2.66% and Tata Consumer, up 2.28%, respectively. Out of 15 index constituents, 13 are reporting gains today.


Nifty PSU Bank index climbed 1.24% to 8260. The index has fallen 6.29% in last one month and gained 14.92% over last one year. Punjab Natl.Bank, gaining 1.80%, led the gainers followed by SBI, edging up 1.62% and UCO Bank, adding 1.18%, respectively. Out of 12 index constituents, 10 are reporting gains today.


Nifty Pharma index lost 0.57%. The index has edged lower 0.58% in last one month and posted strong gains of 17.97% over last one year. Wockhardt, slipping 3.06%, led the losers followed by Laurus Labs, edging lower 2.68% and Aurobindo Pharma, losing 1.52%, respectively. Out of 20 index constituents, 17 are reporting loss today.


Out of 14 sectoral indices on NSE, 9 are in green today. Nifty FMCG index has slumped 6.81% in last one month and has registered heavy losses of 20.73% over last year. Nifty Pharma index is modestly lower by 0.58% in last one month and has jumped 17.97% over last one year.


From NIFTY50 index, Vodafone Idea, Yes Bank AND IFCI are leading in terms of volumes today, clocking turnover of 1911.74 lakh shares, 2131.21 lakh shares and 3372.58 lakh shares respectively.


Asian markets posted modest gains on Wednesday. China’s Shanghai composite is ahead by 0.54%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is slightly lower by 0.09%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is slightly higher by 0.32%.


NIFTY50 Sep-26 futures are in discount of 86.75 points today.
