Local equities see another sharp rise after strong gains

The key equity barometers traded with minor gains in morning trades. Nifty moved in a range of 23361-23287. Nifty Realty, Nifty Media and Nifty Metal shares rose, while Nifty IT shares retreated.


NIFTY edged up 0.23% in last session and recorded sharp losses of 4.19% over last one-week.


At 12:15 IST, the barometer index, the S&P BSE Sensex, posted modest gains of 158.35 points or 0.21% to 74,472.94. The Nifty 50 index edged higher by 40.85 points or 0.18% to 23,311.45.


The broader market underperformed the frontline indices. The BSE 150 MidCap Index added 0.75% and the BSE 250 SmallCap Index advanced 0.87%.


The market breadth was well-supported. On the BSE, 2951 shares gained and 1817 shares fell. A total of 266 shares were unchanged.


Nifty Realty index advanced 1.45% to 846. The index has declined 8.19% in last one month and inched down 9.23% over last one year. Lodha Developers, up 2.96%, led the gainers followed by Sobha, adding 1.92% and Prestige Estates, edging up 1.53%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 9 are reporting gains today.


Nifty Media index climbed 1.31% to 1553. The index has drifted lower by 3.92% in last one month and moved lower by 6.09% over last one year. PVR Inox, gaining 3.96%, led the gainers followed by Nazara Technolo., inching higher 3.20% and Saregama India, up 2.94%, respectively. Out of 10 index constituents, 6 are reporting gains today.


Nifty IT index slipped 1.66%. The index has fallen 5.36% in last one month and posted steep losses of 20.01% over last one year. TCS, slipping 3.12%, led the losers followed by Coforge, easing 1.52% and Wipro, losing 1.41%, respectively. All 10 index constituents are reporting losses today.


Asian markets recorded robust advances on Friday. China’s Shanghai composite is ahead by 0.95%, Hong Kong’s Hang Seng is higher by 0.85%. Japan’s Nikkei 225 is significantly higher by 1.38%.


In Europe, German DAX eased 0.04%, UK’s FTSE 100 climbed 1.19% and French CAC ticked up 0.57%.


In Commodities, MCX Gold is up 0.84% to trade at Rs 1,53,000 per 10 grams. MCX Crude oil lost 1.77% to trade at Rs 9,757 per barrel.
