Gift Nifty was slightly lower, Asian markets posted modest gains

Local stock markets are expected to begin on a subdued note today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are modestly lower by 0.17 points, pointing to a subdued start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market edged higher in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 a tad higher.The BSE Sensex has edged lower 2.44% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has drifted lower 2.91% over the same period.


In Asia today, sentiment was modestly positive. China’s SSE Composite Index drifted lower 0.02% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 inched higher 2.21%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index slipped 1.08%.


Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) sold shares worth Rs 3,111 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 8,930 crore in the Indian equity market on 6 September 2026, provisional data showed.


Overnight on Wall Street, stocks posted modest losses across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished lower by 271.86 points, or 0.51%, and closed at 53435.25. The S&P 500 eased 0.38% to end at 7738.81, and the NASDAQ Composite posted modest losses of 0.30% to 26526.44.


Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex moved higher by 362.57 points or 0.48% to 76515.43. The Nifty 50 index posted modest gains of 24.25 points or 0.10% to 23897.70. SBI Life Insurance Company Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, moving higher by 3.50% to Rs 1775. The stock has risen slightly around 1.43% in last one-week and remains down 10.47% over last one-month.


In sectoral indices, only Nifty Metal index moved higher yesterday, gaining 1.07% on the day.
