Gift Nifty posted modest losses, Asian markets were marginally higher

Local stock markets may see a muted to weaker start today. The Gift Nifty April 2026 futures are modestly lower by 0.04 points, pointing to a subdued start for the benchmark index today. The domestic equity market closed on a weak note in last session, with BSE Sensex and Nifty 50 slightly lower.The BSE Sensex has eased 3.01% over the last one month, while the NSE Nifty has edged lower 3.22% over the same period.


In Asia today, sentiment was slightly firmer. China’s SSE Composite Index inched higher 0.38% while Japan’s Nikkei 225 edged up 0.07%. Hong Kong’s Hang Seng Index eased 0.43%.


Foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) bought shares worth Rs 280 crore, while domestic institutional investors (DIIs) were net buyers to the tune of Rs 566 crore in the Indian equity market on 7 September 2026, provisional data showed.


Overnight on Wall Street, stocks drifted lower across the board. The Dow Jones Industrial Average finished lower by 271.85 points, or 0.51%, and closed at 53435.25. The S&P 500 posted modest losses of 0.37% to end at 7739.60, and the NASDAQ Composite slipped 0.29% to 26527.99.


Yesterday, the S&P BSE Sensex ended slightly lower by 382.62 points or 0.50% to 76132.81. The Nifty 50 index edged lower 118.55 points or 0.50% to 23779.15. Apollo Hospitals Enterprise Ltd was top gainer in Nifty 50 yesterday, rising slightly by 1.27% to Rs 8760. The stock has inched higher around 1.43% in last one-week and stands lower 10.47% over last one-month.


In sectoral indices, only Nifty Pharma index inched higher yesterday, rising 0.75% on the day.
